Avenir Vert and ISTA-LAB Form Strategic Technology Partnership in the DRC

New three-year collaboration will bring together environmental field capability, engineering, AI, IoT and data science to develop locally anchored solutions for climate, environmental health and sustainable development.
Avenir Vert has signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding with the Laboratory of Mechatronics, Artificial Intelligence & Advanced Technologies (ISTA-LAB) at the Institut Supérieur des Techniques Appliquées in Kinshasa.
The partnership creates a formal framework for the two organisations to design, develop and deploy technology-based solutions for environmental monitoring, environmental health and climate resilience in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
ISTA-LAB brings together professors, researchers, students and professionals working across mechatronics, artificial intelligence, robotics, sensors, IoT and data science.
Avenir Vert brings the complementary field capability: community engagement, site identification, local institutional relationships, environmental deployment and impact monitoring.
Together, the organisations will explore how advanced technology and trusted ground-level data can address some of the DRC's most important environmental and development challenges.
From Environmental Data to Action
The collaboration encompasses four interconnected areas:
Environmental Health & One Health — using sensor networks and environmental data to better understand air and water quality, pollution and relationships between environmental change and human health.
Climate & Conservation — monitoring forests and peatlands as globally important carbon stores, alongside environmental early-warning applications.
Sustainable Agriculture — exploring IoT sensing for agricultural environments, soil health and more sustainable resource use.
Research & Capacity Building — joint research, training, workshops and opportunities for Congolese students and technicians to build expertise in emerging climate and environmental technologies.
Building Technology Capability in the DRC
A central principle of the partnership is that environmental technology deployed in the DRC should also contribute to building technical capability within the DRC.
Under the agreement, ISTA-LAB will contribute expertise in areas including technology design and prototyping, software and data platforms, artificial intelligence, system maintenance and technical training. Avenir Vert will provide the bridge into real-world environments and communities where those technologies can ultimately deliver impact.
The organisations will also work together to identify funding opportunities with development institutions, governments and the private sector to translate the collaboration into practical projects.

For Avenir Vert, the partnership represents another step towards building a wider ecosystem around environmental intelligence in the Congo Basin - connecting international technology, Congolese engineering and scientific expertise, local communities and trusted environmental data.
The future of environmental intelligence in the Congo Basin should not simply be deployed here. It should be built here too.
